Terms and conditions
Last updated October 2026. These terms set out what we do, what we need from you, and where each of us stands. They are written plainly on purpose. Please have them checked by a solicitor before you go live.
1. Who we are
DirtyHabit ECU Services (“DirtyHabit”, “we”, “us”) is a bespoke ECU calibration service for Mazda petrol and diesel engines, operated from Scotland and working remotely worldwide.
Trading name: DirtyHabit ECU Services. Trading address: Bank House, Seaforth Street, Fraserburgh, AB43 9BB. Contact: contact@dirtyhabit.uk.
These terms apply to every map, update and consultation we supply. By placing an order you accept them.
2. What we supply
We supply calibration files (maps) and the analysis work behind them. We do not supply hardware, and we are not the author or vendor of the VersaTuner software used to read and flash your ECU.
Unless your order says otherwise, a completed map package is delivered as two files: your optimised map for the fuel grade you told us you run, and a fuel-safety sister map built for the grade below it. Both are yours to keep.
Sister maps cover pump fuels only. E85 and blended race fuels are not covered by a sister map.
A typical package runs to around two weeks from your first logs to your final pair, assuming logs come back promptly from your side. That is an estimate based on how the work normally goes, not a guaranteed delivery date — the work is iterative and depends on the data you send.
We deliberately limit how many cars we take on each month so that each one gets proper attention.
3. The VersaTuner licence
For remote work you need your own VersaTuner licence for your vehicle. The licence is bought from VersaTuner at their own retail price; we do not resell it, mark it up, or take any commission on it, and the prices quoted on this site for the licence are given for information only and may change.
The licence covers the software and licensing your car. What you pay us is our labour, analysis and tailoring, and nothing else.
If you already hold a valid VersaTuner licence for the car, you do not need to buy another.
In-person work carried out by us in Scotland does not require you to hold your own licence.
Your use of VersaTuner is governed by VersaTuner’s own terms, not ours. We are not responsible for that software, its availability, or any change they make to it.
4. Ordering, prices and payment
Adding a package to the basket is not an order. It is an enquiry. We confirm your car, your modifications and your fuel grade before any payment is taken, and we will tell you honestly if a map is not worth doing on your setup.
Prices shown are in US dollars and are the price of our work only. Promotional prices are exactly that — promotional — and may be withdrawn or changed at any time before you place an order. The price we confirm to you in writing is the price you pay.
Forced induction builds and consultations are quoted individually.
Payment terms, including any deposit, are confirmed in writing before work starts. All fees for licensing and software must be paid for up front. Maps and tunes are bespoke to the customer and must be paid for in full before delivery.
Map Updates are available at the reduced rate to existing customers, on cars already running a DirtyHabit map.
5. Promotions and referrals
Where a referral discount is offered: the referred customer must be new to DirtyHabit, and the referral must be named at the point of enquiry. The discount applies to the total of your invoice but can never be more than the sum of the labour on it.
Referral discounts are capped as stated on the packages page, cannot be exchanged for cash, and cannot be combined with another offer unless we say so in writing.
We may withdraw or change any promotion at any time. Orders already confirmed keep the terms they were confirmed under.
6. What we need from you
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you tell us: your exact model and year, your full modification list, the fuel grade you actually run, and any known faults or warning lights.
Logs must be captured on the car the map is for. A map is written for one vehicle and one configuration.
You confirm that you own the vehicle, or have the owner’s permission for it to be remapped.
If your logs or data show a mechanical, sensor or fuelling fault, we will tell you, and we will stop work until it is put right. We cannot calibrate around a broken engine, and we will not try to.
If you fit or change parts after a map is delivered, the map is no longer matched to your car. That is what the Map Updates package is for.
7. Your vehicle, warranty and insurance
Remapping alters the manufacturer’s calibration. It may affect, reduce or void any remaining manufacturer or dealer warranty, and that is a matter between you and them.
You must declare modifications, including a remap, to your insurer. Failing to do so can invalidate your policy. We cannot do this for you and we cannot advise on your policy.
You are responsible for the mechanical condition of your car, for its servicing, and for using the fuel grade the map was written for.
Our maps are written for engines in sound, standard-health condition. Hard use, track use and motorsport carry mechanical risk that exists with or without a remap.
8. Road legality and emissions
Our maps are written to keep the emissions and safety systems fitted to your car working. We do not remove, disable or defeat catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters, EGR or any other emissions equipment, and we will not quote for work that asks us to.
Where cams or other hardware have been fitted, we calibrate with emissions testing in mind, but we cannot guarantee the result of any MOT, smog or roadworthiness test. That depends on the condition of your car.
It is your responsibility to make sure the car, as modified, complies with the law where you drive it. Rules differ by country and by state.
9. Cancellation and refunds
If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you normally have 14 days to cancel a service bought at a distance. Because calibration work is bespoke to your vehicle and begins as soon as we start analysing your data, you agree that work may start within that period, and once it has, we may charge for what has already been done.
Before work starts, you can cancel for a full refund of anything paid.
VersaTuner licences are bought from VersaTuner, not from us, so refunds on a licence are a matter for them.
Nothing here affects your statutory rights, including the right to a service carried out with reasonable care and skill.
10. Liability
We carry out our work with reasonable care and skill, using the data you provide.
We are not liable for mechanical failure caused by pre-existing wear or damage, poor maintenance, incorrect or contaminated fuel, running a map on a car it was not written for, changes made to the car or to the map by anyone else, or use of the vehicle in motorsport.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of use, loss of profit, recovery costs or lost time.
Where we are liable, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the work concerned.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Intellectual property
The calibration files we deliver are licensed to you for use on the vehicle they were written for. They remain our intellectual property.
You may not resell, publish, share or redistribute our maps, or pass them to another tuner to reuse or reverse engineer. Doing so ends your right to use them.
The methods, analysis tooling and calibration library behind the maps stay ours.
12. Complaints
If something is not right, tell us. Email contact@dirtyhabit.uk with your car, your order and what is happening, and send logs if you have them.
We aim to acknowledge every complaint within 7 days and to work through it with you until it is resolved. Most map concerns are solved with more data and a revision, which is part of the service.
13. General
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not remove the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
We may update these terms. The version in force is the one published when you placed your order.
