Last updated October 2026. This notice explains what we collect, why we hold it and what you can ask us to do with it. Please have it checked before you go live.
Who controls your data
DirtyHabit ECU Services is the data controller for the information you send us through this website. Contact for any data question or request: contact@dirtyhabit.uk. A postal address is available on request.
What we collect
From the enquiry form: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the car you selected, your modifications and fuel grade, and whatever you write in the message box.
From working with you: your vehicle details, the ECU logs and data files you send, the calibrations we produce for you, and our correspondence.
From the website itself: the basket is stored in your own browser using local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us until you submit an enquiry or make a payment.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share your details for marketing.
Where you are connecting from
Our host, Cloudflare, tells this site which country a visit came from. We use that for one thing: choosing whether to show prices in dollars, pounds or euros to begin with. You can change it at any time with the currency switcher, and your choice is kept in your own browser rather than with us.
We do not store your IP address for this, we do not build any profile from it, and nothing about your location is passed to anyone else. Because the country is worked out from your connection, a VPN or a roaming phone will often get it wrong — which is why it is only ever a starting point, never a setting you are stuck with.
Why we hold it, and our lawful basis
To answer your enquiry and tell you whether the work is worth doing — our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
To carry out the work, write your maps and support you afterwards — performance of our contract with you.
To keep records of work done, quotes and payments — our legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in being able to evidence what was supplied.
To improve our calibration library. Logs may inform our general calibration work, but only in a form that does not identify you or your vehicle.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become orders: up to 12 months, then deleted.
Customer records, maps and correspondence: 6 years from the end of the work, which matches the usual limitation period for contract claims, then deleted.
Raw ECU logs: kept while the work is live and for 12 months afterwards so a revision can be built on real history, then deleted or anonymised.
Payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires.
Who else sees it
Our website host and email provider, who process data on our behalf.
Our payment provider, when card payment is enabled. Card details are handled by them and never reach us or this website.
Our accountant, for invoices and tax records.
Nobody else, unless the law requires it. We do not sell your data.
Our website host and email routing are provided by Cloudflare. Payments are handled by PayPal.
Where your data is held
We work with customers worldwide, so your details may be processed on servers outside the UK or EEA. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards recognised under UK GDPR, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses with the provider.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict or stop certain processing, or ask for your data in a portable form. Email us and we will respond within one month.
Deleting your data may mean we can no longer support or revise a map we wrote for you.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page. The date of the current version is shown at the top of the page.
