Naturally Aspirated — Stage 2

Cams change everything. So does the map.

If you have upgraded to any aftermarket cam, send us your cam specs along with your logs and we will get them dialled in. New cams mean the entire fuel economy side of your map needs real work, not a tweak.

Safe clearance, first

With your duration, lift and lobe figures, we make sure safe piston-to-valve clearance is maintained throughout. We can also set hard limits on cam position so the engine cannot put itself anywhere it should not be.

Valve events modelled properly

We fully model valve opening and closing events, so you get the right amount of overlap exactly when it is wanted — and injection timing that corresponds to it, rather than fighting it.

Ignition and MBT, top to bottom

Ignition and MBT tables are reworked through the entire rev range. The goal is an OEM feel on the road and the best fuel economy possible when you are not on track — not just a big number at the top end.

A pair of aftermarket camshafts

We can dial in settings for any camshaft, such as BBR or Piper.

Valve events

Modelled, not guessed at.

Duration, advance, retard and overlap are worked out from your cam specs before a single table is touched.

Valve event analysis: exhaust and inlet valve opening periods of 267 and 272 degrees, cam advance and retard, 91 degrees of overlap, and the direct injection and ignition windows
Example here showing the Piper cams for the ND1.

Worth knowing about emissions. Changing cams can affect your smog or emissions test results if they are not dialled in correctly — incomplete burns at low load are the usual culprit. We optimise for that as part of the job, rather than leaving you to find out at the test station.
